What is Lively Up!

Jamaica-flag-600
Lively Up! is an exciting new touring festival produced by Dune Music and Tomorrow’s Warriors to celebrate the kaleidoscope of Jamaican music and heritage, and mark the 50th Anniversary of the island’s independence. The festival will tour to eight major cities in England in 2012 including London, Southampton, Bristol, Birmingham, Nottingham, Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool.

Artistic Director, Gary Crosby OBE presents a fabulous programme of high quality live music concerts and participatory activities for all ages:

Catch A Fire

Bob Marley’s groundbreaking album from 1973 re-imagined for the award-winning Jazz Jamaica All Stars with the Urban Soul Orchestra and guest vocalists, presenting the music in a new and unexpected way to a new generation of lovers of great music

Tighten Up!

Feel the independence vibes with a classic Jazz Jamaica reggae and skazz (ska and jazz) party guaranteed to get audiences on their feet

Parallel

The acclaimed Nu Civilisation Orchestra’s multimedia tribute to the genius of Jamaica’s inspirational jazz icon, Joe Harriott

Steppin’ Over

Tomorrow’s Warriors and JazzCotech join forces to celebrate the Windrush generation, bringing swing, mento, and the best street jazz dance in the country that the whole family can enjoy – children, young people, parents and grandparents

Roots & Reminiscence

An extensive intergenerational learning and participation programme bringing the community together - young people and elders – in a celebration of history and creativity

Mango Spice

Childhood play for all the family using fun and interactive folk songs and ring games to learn about the history and culture of Jamaica

Lively Up! will run from August-November 2012 with the main concert programme being presented during September-November to avoid being overshadowed by the Olympic Games in the UK in August.
